What is Done in Post-Production?

Postproduction is a well-orchestrated, collective process that, depending on the complexity and budget of a project, can take anything from several months to a year or longer.

Edit:

During post-production, the edit suite is the command center. Next like Ardent or Final Cut Pro, the video is moved to an editing system. The editor starts cutting the video, directed by the director's vision. Learn about post-processing.

Sound edit:

In making an atmosphere for the viewer, sound, some would say, is just as critical as the picture. It is the duty of sound editors to arrange a film's audio tracks, eliminate unnecessary noise, and create sound effects. On-camera sounds are created or enhanced by Foley designers (sound artists), including footsteps bouncing off tile floors

Music

Most dramatic films have an original soundtrack, emphasizing a scene's tone or action. The world-renowned composer Hans Zimmer, whose credits include Rain Man, Pearl Harbor, 12 Years a Slave, and Blade Runner 2049, says Take the viewer on a ride.' A music supervisor secures the recording and publication rights if a director wishes to license songs for the soundtrack.

Visual Effects

The special effects unit is made up of designers and engineers. For a film, they design the computer-generated graphics.

Audio Mix

Sound mixers move in to change audio settings after all audio tracks are completed. This is an important move because if the soundtrack is too noisy when people are talking, the influence of sound will quickly overtake a scene or detract from the plot if the sound is too quiet and the viewer can not understand what is happening.

What is a Color correction?

A colorist works into each shot to digitally alter and enhance the hues and light while the image is locked (meaning, no more edits or changes), to establish cohesion and strike a tone.

Custom Graphics

The title, credits, and graphics are created and incorporated (such as a date stamp).
